And what a day to choose… of all the days in the calender this had to be the one. There were early warnings that i had got from a few but never expected that this would turn out to be such a spectacle. The Graduation of the Batch of 2006.
It started in the evening when it seemed that nothing could go wrong. Not very perfect decorations( but you need unlimited budget for that). Well as i was saying things looked pretty good till 1545. Then there was some commotion. Then all hell broke loose. I don’t wish to exaggerate but things looked pretty messy. The Batch of 06 had one more fight left in them. Not all looked happy. There were some who had looked forward to the graduation. I can’t point my finger at anyone and tell that it was his fault or hers, but all that i observed was that the thing was poorly managed. Time and again i have felt that people here are not fit to manage a growing institution; maybe it was lack of experience or tactical abilities or both.
I call it a mutiny because there were ample chances for the managers to get out of this mess. But then because of the reasons listed above things really got out of hand. Another reason why i call this a mutiny : You can’t put a lid on the mouth of a volcano and expect it to behave like a pressure cooker, that is to say that you can’t always control the turn of events. It was also the lack of management in the long term that things like this happen. Do not pressurize the students otherwise things like this are bound to happen.
I feel that this was not a question of money (caution deposit), it was more about the freedom to vent anger at situations that the students had undergone in the college and it was the frustration that came out yesterday. Ithought that the people could have behaved in a better manner. The way in which students behaved was trully disheartening. The management should have solved the problem faster as it is they had to give the money so why the long wait. ‘Police was unnecessary.’ All showed off the lack of man management skills of the people incharge. I also feel that such things will not occur in the future. This i say because students now are soft. But if the management policies of the college do not change things could get pretty messy in the future.
